Known Issues & Bugs — Demo and Launch
The bugs players are hitting in Quest for Bread: the launch-day crashes and glitches, the demo-era list, and the gamepad question players still argue about.
The game is out, so this stopped being a demo baseline and became a live bug list. The launch build brought its own problems, separate from anything the demo showed.
Bugs players hit at launch
These come from the release reviews, not from the demo. None of them is universal — the game sits at a strong positive rating — but each is a specific report from someone who bought it.
| Bug | What players describe |
|---|---|
| Fullscreen crash, then a stuck save | Switching to fullscreen at the final boss crashed the game; on reopening, that save could not continue. The worst one here — it can cost you the run. |
| Invisible floor / empty lava | Missing floor collision and empty spots where lava should be. |
| No boss retry from the menu | To retry a boss you wait roughly 30 seconds to die first. Painful for the no-hit hat run. |
| Linux build broken | Launching the native Linux build spawns you in what looks like a dev room, with no way to quit. |
Carried over from the demo
Reported during the demo and not specifically re-confirmed or ruled out in the launch reviews yet. Kept here because the demo and release share the same engine, so they are the first things to check.
| Issue | What players describe |
|---|---|
| Periodic freezes | Game hitches for up to a full second, repeatedly |
| Stuttery character | Character animation stutters while the camera stays smooth |
| Mouse cursor on screen | Cursor stays visible; pushing it to a screen edge stops the camera turning |
| No camera invert | No option to invert the X/Y axis — a demo player asked for it outright |
| Cutscene damage | You can take damage during a transition cutscene |
| Bloom too strong | The Bloom setting makes the game “unplayably bright”; turning it off drops some textures |
Where players actually disagree
The gamepad question is the one with two honest sides. One demo review called the pad great; one discussion thread called it jarring. Nothing at launch has settled it.
A demo reviewer said the controls felt great on a gamepad and the platforming was fun — the only English demo review that mentioned a controller at all.
A discussion thread was titled, plainly, “Gamepad controls a bit jarring”. Not everyone landed in the same place.
If you bounce off the pad, at least one other player did too. There isn’t enough public detail to say whether the split is about different controllers, deadzones, or the missing invert option colouring the whole thing.
The bugs are not the story
They sit next to a lot of praise — the movement gets named again and again, and the launch reviews run strongly positive despite the crash reports. A short, charming game with a few rough edges is what most buyers describe, not a broken one.
